About the Deck

The deck is literally just all the sentences I have gathered over the past 2 or so years of studying Japanese. I originally started with one of the core decks shared on AnkiWeb so I expect the first couple of hundred cards are probably ones I kept from those decks. After the first few hundred though they are all mostly from native sources, mainly anime, drama, manga or books with a few exceptions e.g. sentences from Tae Kim’s grammar guide and a few bilingual cards for programming concepts.

Another thing to note is that as you get further into the deck, a few cards don’t have the correct furigana for the expression field on the back. Most of the time it’s usually just the reading for 何. Sometimes it can be なに, others it can be なん. This is something I picked up quickly with a bit of reading, and as it’s a common word I never bothered correcting the furigana that Anki generates. I’ve no doubt that you will quickly pick up the difference between when to read it as なん or なに too though so it shouldn’t be a problem. Other than that I have corrected most of the furigana for the reading section of each card (besides character names as I knew them already and couldn’t be bothered to correct them). The section with the dictionary definition, however, is completely auto generated and may contain errors. The most common one I see a lot is 語 having the reading of かたり when it should be ご. So just be aware of this.

I reached a high level of literacy by studying the cards in this deck and reading lots of native material. But as it’s my deck, and I chose each card individually, it may not be as beneficial to you as it has been for me. I would highly suggest you make your own deck too and if you want to, use some of my cards along side to aid your studies. I would perhaps search for a word you want to learn and find sentences in my deck that contain that word, then move them to your deck.
